Threatened salmon rely on a rare life history strategy in a warming landscape

چکیده
Rare phenotypes and behaviours within a population are often overlooked, yet they may serve heightened role for species imperilled by rapid warming. In threatened spring-run Chinook salmon spawning at the southern edge of range, we show late-migrating juveniles critical to cohort success in years characterized droughts ocean heatwaves. Late migrants rely on cool river temperatures over summer, increasingly rare due combined effects warming impassable dams. Despite dominance late migrants, other strategies played an important many years. Our results suggest that further loss phenotypic diversity will have impacts persistence climate. Predicted thermally suitable conditions shrink rapidly future be largely relegated above Reconnecting diverse habitat mosaics support integral long-term this species. Highlighting importance persistence, authors late-migrant were drought heatwave Combined dams threaten these migrants’ survival.

Human‐mediated evolution in a threatened species? Juvenile life‐history changes in Snake River salmon
Evaluations of human impacts on Earth's ecosystems often ignore evolutionary changes in response to altered selective regimes. Freshwater habitats for Snake River fall Chinook salmon (SRFCS), a threatened species in the US, have been dramatically changed by hydropower development and other watershed modifications. Associated biological changes include a shift in juvenile life history: Historica...

reinsurance is widely recognized as an important instrument in the capital management of an insurance company as well as its risk management tool. this thesis is intended to determine premium rates for different types of reinsurance policies. also, given the fact that the reinsurance coverage of every company depends upon its reserves, so different types of reserves and the method of their calc...
A framework for understanding Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) life history
We took a hierarchical approach to understanding Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) life history patterns by first comparing salmonids to other teleosts, next comparing Atlantic salmon to other salmonids, and finally, mapping correlations among individual life history traits within Atlantic salmon. The combination of anadromy, large eggs, nest construction and egg burial by females, and large size a...

15 صفحه اولWarming Ocean Conditions Relate to Increased Trophic Requirements of Threatened and Endangered Salmon
The trophic habits, size and condition of yearling Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) caught early in their marine residence were examined during 19 survey years (1981-1985; 1998-2011). Juvenile salmon consumed distinct highly piscivorous diets in cold and warm ocean regimes with major differences between ocean regimes driven by changes in consumption of juvenile rockfishes, followed by ...
